If the new property to be purchased, has separate utility meters, suitable departments need to be intimated to analyze the meters on closing. Doing this is essential to ensure the services are not interrupted and billing to the purchaser is done only after the closing date. The vendor is billed for services before the closing date. It is advisable that vendors and purchasers contact Hydro directly to make meter readings arrangements. The purchaser can also connect with other utility departments to reset the utility accounts in their name after the closing date. The purchasers should identify and confirm which service provider they have and should get in touch with them. In many circumstances, the water, furnace or air conditioning may be on lease, then the purchaser will need to assume a rental agreement and make payments for those amounts in accordance with the agreement.
