Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Program
Immigration to Canada offers many streams that provide individuals with limitless opportunities to arrive in Canada. Further, an online system named ‘Express Entry’ is used by immigration officers to shortlist potential skilled workers who can add value to Canada’s economy. The Federal Skilled Worker Program, managed via this system, allows foreign nationals to move to Canada and boost their careers. Moreover, one can also achieve permanent residency through the Express Entry system.
Eligibility requirements for Federal Skilled Worker Program
As per the Federal Skilled Worker Category (FSWC), an applicant needs to pass with a minimum score of 67 points out of 100. This allows an applicant to create an Express Entry profile to enter the pool of potential candidates, where points are assigned based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Remember that points for selection under Express Entry are ranked through CRS ranking and are different from the eligibility criteria of 67 points for the FSW category.
The factors considered under the Comprehensive Ranking System are:
1. Work Experience:
- You must have a minimum of one year of work experience in one of the NOC categories. Under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.This work experience should be continuous, one-year full-time or equivalent part-time, and should be in one occupation.
- You must have worked in that job or in a similar part-time job in a skilled occupation in the last 10 years.

3. Education

- If you did your education outside of Canada, then you will need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). This is to confirm if your education standard matches that of Canadian standards.
4. Age
- If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, then you get higher points because it is considered a prime age for working.
- From 35 years of age, the point of your age decreases every year as you grow older.
- If you are 47 years old, the age factor points get 0 points.
5. Adaptability
You will earn extra points if your spouse or partner has a connection in Canada, such as:
- Previous study or work experience in Canada
- Blood relatives in Canada
- Have received Canadian education
- Good performance in the language test
6. Financial Proof
- It is important for you to show that you have enough funds to be able to support yourself and your family.
